ettercap-common software package provides Multipurpose sniffer/interceptor/logger for switched LAN, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install ettercap-common
ettercap-common is installed in your system.
Make ensure the ettercap-common package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep ettercap-common *
You will get with ettercap-common package name, version, architecture and description in a table
